Ranzau Relocation

Ranzau School has always been influenced by explorers, navigating their way to create new possibilities to empower their learners for an unknown future.  Ranzau School has this opportunity again. To navigate a new journey, on a new site.

Below is some key information and FAQ to help keep you informed about this exciting project.

What is actually happening?

 The Ministry of Education is planning to move Ranzau School into the Lower Queen Street (Berryfields/Meadows) subdivision:

• Move staff and students to a 3-hectare school site, 

• A brand new school designed with community and focused on our Ranzau learning philosophy and curriculum. 

• Larger site - amazingly more space per student than the current location.

What is the timeline?

The graphic below depicts a simplified version of what has happened so far, where the project is up to and what is still to happen. As the project continues we will update this to reflect the progress and current stage of development. At this point there is no completion date or funding available in this years budget. The relocation project will be considered for funding next year.

What happens until the school is built?

We think we have an amazing school where we are and we know we will have an amazing world class school when we move. In the meantime the Ranzau B.O.T. and staff are all committed to continuing to make sure that this is the best place to be! We will continue to empower our learners and create inspiring possibilities so that everyone can SHINE.

Will this be disruptive to students?

No, actually the opposite.

Staff are excited about this possibility and including students in the process. This will give students ownership, real authentic learning and an opportunity to be part of history.

Also, as the building is happening on another site, there is no disruption on the day to day learning for students.

How will this effect the school culture?

We think it will enhance the great things that currently exist.

This is an amazing opportunity to take all the unique and special characteristics of Ranzau School and intentionally strengthen them on a new site, creating a hub for a growing local community.

What size would the school be? 

Current predictions show the school would gradually grow to approx 250 students.

Is moving a school a new concept?

No, there are lots of examples where this has occurred throughout the country over many years. In fact, this will be the third location and second move in Ranzau School’s history. Please refer to our history to learn more.
